About Sheep Mailings

About Sheep MailingsIn the spring of 1998, inspiration led to the sharing with a few close friends and trusted colleagues, some factual documented information regarding the activities taking place in the Christian Science movement.  What began as a select few has grown to a substantial list of those who wish to be kept informed about how the movement is being directed away from the design of Mary Baker Eddy.  These mailings were labeled "sheep" mailings, because those who requested the mailings were motivated by the desire to follow Mrs. Eddy's leadership.  "Sheep" is defined by Mrs. Eddy as "innocence; inoffensiveness; those who follow their leader" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures 594:12 - emphasis added).

From Message to The Mother Church, 1901, Mrs. Eddy writes:

"Finally, brethren, wait patiently on God; return blessing for cursing; be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good; be steadfast, abide and abound in faith, understanding, and good works; study the Bible and the textbook of our denomination; obey strictly the laws that be, and follow your Leader only so far as she follows Christ.  Godliness or Christianity is a human necessity: man cannot live without it; he has no intelligence, health, hope, nor happiness without godliness.  In the words of the Hebrew writers: 'Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.  In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths;' 'and He shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday'" (34:20).

The purpose of the sheep mailings is to present a comprehensive, detailed, and informative picture of the many challenges facing the Christian Science movement so students of Christian Science can more effectively work and pray for the Cause they love.  Great care is taken to ensure that each mailing is well researched and well documented.
